What Are The Common Materials For Rotating Shaft Ends?

Common materials for rotating shaft ends mainly include the following:

Stainless Steel:
Stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant alloy steel containing at least 10.5% chromium. According to the amount of other alloying elements added, stainless steel can be divided into different types, such as 304 (18/8 stainless steel), 316, etc. They have good corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and processing properties, so they are widely used in rotating shaft ends.
Carbon Steel:
Carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy with a high carbon content, which has good strength and hardness, but relatively poor corrosion resistance. According to the carbon content, carbon steel can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel. Carbon steel is a common choice for rotating shaft ends that need to bear large loads.
Alloy Steel:
Alloy steel is an iron-carbon alloy composed of ordinary carbon steel with an appropriate amount of one or more alloying elements. These alloying elements include manganese, silicon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, titanium, niobium, boron, aluminum, copper, rare earth, etc. Alloy steel has special properties such as high strength, high toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, low temperature resistance, and non-magnetic properties, so it is suitable for occasions with special requirements for rotating shaft rod ends.
Cast Iron:
Cast iron is a general term for alloys mainly composed of iron, carbon and silicon. Cast iron has good castability, wear resistance and shock absorption, but its strength and toughness are relatively low. In some occasions where strength and precision are not too high, cast iron can also be used as the material of rotating shaft rod ends.
Engineering Plastics:
For some applications under light load, low speed or special environment (such as corrosive environment), engineering plastics such as nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), etc. can also be used as the material of rotating shaft rod ends. These materials have the advantages of light weight, corrosion resistance and easy processing.
